The river at Wherwell Priory provides a very special mile and a quarter of fly fishing on the Test in some of the most beautiful countryside in Hampshire. The local village of Wherwell has thatched cottages and an excellent country pub, The White Lion, which is recommended in the Good Pub Guide. |

The on-going restoration bankwork using 'hazel weave' faggots has increased the flow, encouraging weed and creating some excellent holding pools. The fishery has a good population of 'wild brown' trout as well as stocked fish. This was a lovely 5 lb brown trout landed in the first week of May. |

On these river banks you can see some wonderful wildlife including nesting kingfishers, herons, bank voles, little grebes, barn owls, kites and other birds of prey and even the occasional otter. You can also see rare orchids and arum. This is one of the least developed and tranquil stretches of the Test. It's a place to really get away from it all. |
